Hey folks, so there’s a very slim chance anything will come of this but my story is a tricky one so it’s worth a shot. I was born on the 14th March 1987 and that’s about all I know. I was left at under 24 hours old in a sports bag in the doorway of the Co-Operative Department Store, Chesterfield, Derbyshire, UK and named Katy Elder by the nurses at the hospital. The only other clue I have is a bus ticket dated January 1987 for an adult and child going from Norton (near Sheffield) to Chesterfield and back. After that it’s a complete mystery. I was adopted by my Mum and Dad who were and are the best people I will ever know. I am loved and not looking for a new family, just wanting to fill in some blanks and let whoever put me into this world that I have been given the best possible life I could have been. The whole thing is a bit of a long shot but I just want to try and get rid of some big question marks hanging over my head. Anyway you could share this or help would be amazing. Thanks, Victoria

Unfortunately, in the flurry of tourists, I didn’t get the names of these paintings. I was stunned by the detail involved and unlike everyone else I wanted to look at the paintings that WEREN’T La Jaconde. I get it, she’s smirking but she wasn’t the most interesting woman in there. There were far more haunting and interesting faces inside the world’s most famous museum. There were stories of faith & religion, love & lust, stories of faces made of fruit, the crucifixion of Christ, the debasing of women, the flogging of traitors, the likeness of goddesses, young girls, prostitutes and mothers. There are stories of battle, triumph, defeat, anguish, terror. There are artifacts from a time in which only the art survived. As I wander around the labyrinth that is the Louvre, a palace of man’s greatest feat, I am engrossed in almost everything I look at. And La Jaconde is still there, its just her smile means something different to me now.

detail,Musee du Louvre, 2012

detail,Musee du Louvre, 2012

Musee du Louvre,detail, 2012
